The Sellers Association of Central Market presided by Jesus Andreu was born in the mid-1986. After a disputed election, Vicenta Lloris Vicaría begins her charge as a president, a young saleswoman with a long family tradition. She will be the main responsible for driving the Central Market on the path of self-management.
On November 12th, 1986 was a historic day for the Central Market. On that date, the Central Market Self-management Agreement was voted on 415 sellers participated in the vote, of which an immense majority, 369 (89%) , cast their vote in favour of self-management, with only 32 votes against, 7 votes blank and 7 null. Thanks to this agreement, traders took the reins of their own destiny and jumped into the void with the aim of relaunching the Central Market in Valencia, submitted in the two decades preceding an endless impasse. The inactivity in all areas had led to a situation of stagnation, regression in sales and presence in the commercial life of the city.
The agreement, which was approved in December of that year in the plenary of the Valencia City Council, and began on January 1, 1987, and in force of 10 years, extendable for the same period os time (with a ceiling of up to 50 years), implied that the day to day market was going to be managed by the sellers themselves.
The association begins to deal with issues of vital importance to the market such as safety and cleanliness. For the first time, the Central Market has specific guards throughout the day and night guards when those are retired. It also hires suitable and appropriate personnel for a permanent cleaning.
After the tenure of Vicenta LLoris Vicaria (1986-1998), Vicente Gimeno Sistero takes the reins (1998-2010). Under his mandate, the major rehabilitatiton project of the Central Market building was undertaken.
The current president, Francisco Dasí González, has among his inmediate pretensions the consolidation of the Central Market of Valencia as one of the best in Europe, not only in terms of the building, but also in terms of supply, commercial activity and customer services.
The current challenges are not easy and the Central Market aims to be at the forefront in offering all kinds of services and advantages to its customers, without which this market would not be the benchamark that today is. It is so difficult to arrive as to be maintained, and even, sometimes, it is more arduous task the second.
A whole series of services of a new nature have been emerging in the las times:
Internet sales and home delivery (indluding the rest of Spain or Europe), cold storage until 9 pm, lactation room ... Without forgetting the classic services that require continuous maintenance and improvement: parking, information point, cleaning.
The Central Market is also an important agent in the life of the historic center of Valencia. Their opinions, about projects that in the future will be rushed into the Central Market is also an important agent in the life of the historic center of Valencia. Their opinions, about projects that in the future will be rushed into the urban environment that surrounds it must be considered by the institutions. The health and vitality of the Central Market is a decisive factor for the neighbourhood of the market and who better than the sellers themselves who form it to say about how to ensure a full future of vigour for this institution and emblematic building of our city.
